The Best Rooftop Bars In Rome {With Map}

I’m all about vino with a view: few things in life are better than enjoying a chilled glass of white wine on a rooftop terrace in Rome while watching the sun slowly set over the city’s most iconic monuments. Lucky for me, Rome boasts dozens of incredible rooftops to choose from – each offering a unique vantage point of the city’s panorama. Discover the 25 best rooftop bars in Rome below with a handy map for easy navigation (if you click the star next to the title it will save it to your Google Maps). And if you’re more of a cosy-indoor-glass-of-wine kind of a person, I’ve got you covered with a list of the 40 best wine bars in Rome.

Most rooftops in Rome belong to city’s luxury hotels with the exception of Up Sunset Bar, located at the top of La Rinascente department store, Zuma, located within Palazzo Fendi (though there are private suites in the building) and Pianoalto, the newest bistrot & restaurant run by the fabulous ladies of Pianostrada – this last spot just opened so be sure to check it out while you’re in Rome. I’ve tried to be comprehensive and include all the best rooftop bars I could think of in the map but wanted to share some notes about a few favorites.

Eitch Borromini

Terrazza Borromini is tied with Zuma for trendiest rooftop bar in Rome right now. This beautiful terrace may be the highest in Rome and is located on the roof of the 17th century Palazzo Pamphili in Piazza Navona, meaning you’re treated to incredible 360 views of the city rooftops and the piazza’s ornate fountains from up above. The whole feeling is very grande bellezza, with plus white seats that wrap around the terrace.

One of the Eternal City’s buzziest openings, Zuma was an immediate hit when it opened within Palazzo Fendi and continues to attract a fashionista crowd and jet-setter travelers. Zuma, the Japanese restaurant of London fame, is located on the upper floor of the Fendi restaurant while the outside terrace has views of the sculptural “La Lanterna” construction by Fuksas prominently visible next door.

Les Etoiles Roof Garden

If you’re after a view of St. Peter’s, the Les Etoiles rooftop on top of the Hotel Atlante has a great view and better prices than most. The terrace has a laid-back atmosphere and has stayed largely under the radar (reinforcing my belief that Prati, despite being next-door to the Vatican, is one of Rome’s more local neighborhoods). It’s also conveniently located just around the corner from Sorpasso and Passaguai, two of my favorite restaurants in Rome.

9 Hotel Cesàri

The terrace of the 9 Hotel Cesari is one of the best kept secrets in the Eternal City. Located just around the corner from the Pantheon and a stone’s throw from Piazza di Pietra, it looks onto the arresting facade of Sant’Ignazio Church in Rome (with its famous trompe l’oeil ceiling paintings) and has a more intimate feel than most.

Mecenate Palace Terrazza dei Papi

Santa Maria Maggiore is my favorite of Rome’s four basilicas and seeing it from up-close is a real treat. The Mecenate Palace terrace brings up close to the facade and feels like you’ve stumbled upon a secret – this rooftop is lesser known that others and located away from the tourist crowds in the Esquilino neighborhood.
